PowerSolo return with an album that cuts to the bone. 12
songs in 30 minutes just like the good old days.
BLOODSKINBONES. Blood, skin and bones. Tendons, nerves,
muscles and not so much as a gram of excess fat on a
skeleton that can be seen and felt. Very much in tune with
the Jeppesen brothers’ bodies, which grace the cover. The
railthin brothers, Kim Kix and Atomic Child, are once again
a duo after the group’s drummer of five years, JC Benz,
pulled the plug to focus on his sound studio and family.
Benz has however still been on drum duty on BLOODSKINBONES,
which was also recorded in his studio. Three men in one
room. Drums and two guitars and then a dozen songs that want
you no good and go straight for the throat. This is
PowerSolo in their natural habitat – just like they are
live, where they have earned an incomparable reputation for
being a full- on, intense and always entertaining band. |

Thee Vicars...Well it all started over a
drunk conversation while at a gig with yet another trendy
boring band. Sick of everyone sounding the same and with no
money to get out of town, they thought "Fuck it, we'll do it
ourselves"...and so they did.
'The Bury St. Edmunds quartet are
something approaching a revelation, they know their Meek
from the majority and wear their influences well, there's
more than enough here to justify adding 'Psychotic Beat' to
the collection box' 8/10
NME
'Thee Vicars are thee most authentic
garage punk band this side of The Mummies, who they recently
supported on a one off reunion show.'
Vice Magazine
'Psychotic garage squall from bury st

melds the mighty caesars trash to sonics/standells punk.'

The Neurotics, The Crazy Squeeze,

[DETAILS]

|
Well it's been over 20 years since Johnny and I
started this crazy ride. We started out in
Detroit as The 13th Floor. We quickly started
playing all the clubs sharing the stage with
Seduce, The Trash Brats, The Meanies, Ugly But
Proud, Almighty Lumberjacks of Death and many
other bands in Detroit. We played everywhere we
could but Blondies on the westside was our home
away from home (geting our asses kicked by the
westside punkrockers was an added bonus each
time we arrived at the club). After a short time
we started to headline shows and get a good
following. Then we decided to roll the dice and
move to Los Angeles and never looked back. We
played every club from The Whiskey to Bar
Deluxe...you name it we played there. We went
thru a lot of bass players, R.I.P. Alex. We made
alot of great music together. So for now that's
about it. It's been great getting back together,
and with the addition of George Wright from Ugly
But Proud on bass and SickBoyTodd Bishop on
rhythm guitar, The Neuritics are sounding better
than ever. Keep an eye out for future shows and
a record in summer 2010. Falling James from The
La Weekly wrote: The Neurotics kicked around
Detroit in the late 1980s with a straight-ahead,
tunefully driving punk & roll sound that drew
heavily from the Ramones and the Heartbreakers.
But the Motor City's vaunted garage-rock revival
was still a decade away, so the group eventually
moved to Hollywood, where they stood out for a
little while as one of the more authentically
rocking bands in a scene then dominated by
grunge and metal mercenaries. Drummer Roy Morgan
(the Excessories, Nikki Corvette, Kevin K) and
lanky singer-guitarist Johnny Neurotic, who
resembles the Dils' Tony Kinman and yowls with a
coolly insolent sneer, recently started up the
trio again with a new bassist, George Wright.
Their compact power-punk songs are as catchy as
ever, albeit once again out of step with
prevailing trends. How good are the Neurotics?
Well, they're able to take one of the worst and
sappiest Rolling Stones songs, "As Tears Go By,"
give it some speed and fuzz, and transform it
into a viably hooky punk anthem. Even better,
though, are such originals as "Not Right Now"
and "What Was it Like," which aim for a
power-pop melodicism but have so much swarming
punk energy, they instead evoke lost Australian
bands like the Psycho Surgeons. The Neurotics
are billed tonight with simpatico
Blondie-influenced New Yorkers the Choke. |

Brent Amaker & The Rodeo, Kimble
County Killers, Rev. Deadeye
[DETAILS]
 |
Texas cowboy Brent Amaker has a way of
following me around like one of those
annoying imaginary friends in TV shows and
movies. When I open up a cupboard looking
for a box of cereal, he’s lounging on one of
the shelves like a goddamn Cheshire Cat,
wearing the hick get-up I hate most of all:
tight dark-blue jeans, belt with a huge
buckle, and cowboy boots. When I trudge up
to my musty attic to grab an artifact, he’s
up there too, giving me the thumbs-up and
grinning like I can imagine he did when he
wrote a lot of these lyrics. Hell, I’ll be
holding my erect cock, on the cusp of sex,
and his head will replace my wife’s, and
this time instead of a gesture or grin he
simply gives me a nod and mumbles, “Howdy
Do.”

Mark Mulholland (Two Dollar
Bash), James Finch Jr, Rusty Miller
[DETAILS]
|
 |
|
Mark Mulholland is a versatile and original
musician and songwriter, whose repertoire spans
a wide range of styles and influences, including
Celtic folk, country, reggae, blues, jazz and
rock. His assured and inventive guitar playing
encompasses fingerpicking reminiscent of
Scottish guitarist Bert Jansch, fine slide
playing and a powerful sense of rhythm, combined
with a subtle and distinctive voice which is
instantly recognisable. Drawing from an eclectic
range of influences, Mark has developed a unique
and individual style which is unmistakably his
own. Mark Mulholland's finely crafted songs
include haunting and emotive works which have
been compared to Nick Drake, exuberant
celebrations of travel, love, friendship and
drink, and entertaining parodies of different
musical styles, all delivered with a confidence
that commands the attention of audiences
everywhere. Born in Glasgow in 1968, Mark has
been travelling and making his living from
playing music for the last 15 years. He started
playing in bands while at university in
Edinburgh. After a year studying philosophy in
France, Mark left his studies to concentrate
solely on music. For a couple of years he toured
Europe with the band The Purple Rizla
Experience, then settled in Prague in 1992,
becoming a key figure in The Oul’ Bogwarriors, a
loose configuration boasting many great
musicians and songwriters within its ranks. For
several years he split his time largely between
Prague and Ireland, where he also had a band and
a solo career. In 1995, he formed the band
Impure Thoughts with a couple of other Prague
musicians, spending a year in Ireland writing
songs and playing around the country. In 1996
they set off on an open-ended tour taking in 10
European countries. On reaching Berlin, the van
died, leaving the band stranded there. Mark and
another member decided to stay, and the band
recorded two albums, "Life and How to Ignore
it", and "Lights Ahead". Mark now plays in the
alternative country/acoustic blues band Two
Dollar Bash, who have released two albums, "Two
Dollar Bash" and "On the Road", and have just
finished their third, "Lost River". |

stir them into a vicious concoction of

Family, Hard Fall Hearts, Seven 40 Seven
[DETAILS]
|
 |
|
The Chop Tops began when Sinner found two
rock’n’roll renegades that loved Rockabilly
music just as much as he. Sinner's penchant for
playing standing drums was only equaled by his
love for the roots rockabilly, early punk, &
psycho vocalists he grew up listening to. This
led him to developing his own wild style of
singing lead vocals while playing standing
drums. He teamed up with Gretsch guitar
extraordinaire Shelby, after witnessing one of
his blistering guitar performances in San
Francisco. With his punk swagger and
the-devil-may-care attitude, it was obvious that
Shelby shared Sinner's passion for a frantic
Rock n' Roll beat and songwriting. Last, but not
least, came an upright bassist that would glue
together the Chop Tops stompin' singer/drummer
and livewire guitar slinger into one red-hot,
rockin' band. Sinner's childhood friend and
Santa Cruz slap bass pioneer Hot Rod completed
the band and set The Chop Tops wheels a rolling. |

|
I put the missingmen together in the summer of 2006 in order
to bring forth my third punk rock opera "hyphenated-man"
(the first two being 1997's "contemplating the engine room"
and 2004's "the secondman's middle stand"). whereas
"...engine room" dealt w/my pop's life in the navy as a
metaphor for the story of the minutemen and "...middle
stand" was a parallel to dante's "comedia" dealing w/an
illness that almost killed me in 2000, this third opera will
be quite different in that it has no standard narrative
(libretto!) meaning no regular beginning-middle-end and will
be as it were "simultaneous" in the way a mirror from just
inside my head - right in this middle-age moment of mine -
was then shattered into thirty pieces, each showing a piece
of my state of mind (or out-of-mind) as of now. "thirty
tunes?" yes, they're little ones. |
